Yong'an Bamboo: Growing a Green Fortune
: :

Iris Wong / Host

Growing up in Fujian, I’ve always known it as China’s bamboo kingdom—but nothing prepared me for Yong’an. Here, bamboo forests stretch nine times farther than Hong Kong Island. But how does this green gold fuel a billion-dollar, low-carbon revolution?

Liu Xiu / Yong’an Institute of Bamboo Industry Executive Director

See this? Years of growth, silently capturing carbon from the air—nature’s own carbon vault.

Bamboo isn’t just carbon-negative; it’s precision-engineered by nature. For paper? 1–2-year-old stalks. For furniture? 3–5 years. And after a decade? It decomposes cleanly—releasing almost zero carbon back into the atmosphere.

Renewable, recyclable, and rugged—bamboo is the ultimate triple-threat material.

In this factory, locally harvested bamboo transforms into EU-certified container flooring—proving sustainability meets global standards.

Vikida Yu / CEO, Fujian HeQiChang Bamboo Industrial Co., Ltd.

Our pride: high-density bamboo boards.

Iris Wong:

These are incredibly sturdy! What’s their purpose?

Vikida Yu:

Shipping container floors. Through drying, kiln-baking, and hot pressing, bamboo becomes tougher than steel—yet 100% planet-friendly.

Today, 90% of global shipping containers rely on bamboo flooring. We chose bamboo not just for strength—but because every plank planted is a tree saved.

Iris Wong:

The thick stalks build furniture and homes, while scraps fuel furnaces—zero waste, maximum impact.

Biomass fuel—nature’s energy reborn. Made from organic waste, it slashes fossil fuel use and cuts emissions without compromise.

Zheng Yongqiang / Villager

This biomass roaster? Perfect for bamboo shoots and mushrooms—fast, hot, and cheap to run.

With electricity? You’d need massive power surges to hit 90°C in an hour. Biomass? Efficient and economical.

Iris Wong:

Every watt of green energy powers us closer to a future where growth and sustainability grow hand in hand.
