[Cultural China] Horse Lantern Crafts Shine in Foshan's Festive Markets
: :

During the Spring Festival, the festive markets across Foshan in south China’s Guangdong Province come alive with energy. Visitors can browse a colorful array of traditional goods while discovering eye-catching creative products inspired by intangible cultural heritage.

With the arrival of the Year of the Horse, equine-themed designs have gained particular popularity. Among them is a delicate lantern designed by Huang Minyan, an inheritor of Foshan Colored Lantern craftsmanship. Adorned with classical motifs such as tang grass, floral, and shunzi patterns, each lantern conveys wishes for enduring vitality, prosperity, and peace.

Huang Minyan, Inheritor of Foshan Colored Lanterns:

We preserved classic Lingnan designs, such as traditional window patterns.

It is compact enough to fit in a small bag—making it perfect as a festive gift.

These lanterns capture the festive spirit while being both decorative and gift-ready, making them a top choice. Visitors can even try making their own, gaining a hands-on experience with this traditional craft.

Ms. Lin, Customer:

It’s great to see tradition and creativity blend so seamlessly.

The high-quality products are both stylish and meaningful, making them an effective way to promote traditional culture.

It makes me proud to see more people appreciating it.

Both locals and artisans agree that the festive markets give Lingnan traditions a fresh spark during the holiday season, and they hope to see more opportunities like this to keep the culture alive and thriving.
