The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month. A time-honoured tradition, viewing lanterns and solving riddles takes on a unique twist at the Nantong Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Culture Museum, where folk fun meets traditional medicine.
Inside the antique -style museum, the classic lantern fair scene comes to life—strings of glowing lanterns, each dangling a riddle. What sets this event apart is its theme: all 150 riddles delve into TCM lore, from herbal wisdom to health insights, blending the joy of puzzle-solving with the depth of ancient healing arts.
Held annually since the museum opened in 2016, the activity has become a family favourite among TCM enthusiasts. The director notes a heartening trend: thanks to growing TCM outreach, younger participants often display greater herbal knowledge than their elders.
Beyond riddles, visitors can craft their own TCM sachets, immersing themselves in a complete Lantern Festival experience as celebrated in bygone days.
