[Cultural China] Ancient Charm Meets Modern Vibes as Wuxi’s First Floating Market Opens
: :

Gentle boats glide across shimmering waters, while neatly arranged stalls line the riverbanks and shop boats stretch along the waterway. Wuxi, in eastern China, has launched its first-ever floating market.

Costumed street performers, lotus vendors selling goods along the river, and distinctive shop boats moored side by side transport visitors back in time. Visitors can immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere and prosperity of an ancient waterfront marketplace.

Interview / Visitor:

"It perfectly blends traditional aesthetics with modern elements. The result feels fresh and distinctive, creating a truly wonderful fusion of the old and the new."

Following the layout of the ancient canal, the market breaks away from the traditional fair format. It features an innovative combination of riverside stalls and floating boat shops. Complemented by vibrant live music performances throughout the surrounding area, the venue recreates the lively yet elegant charm of the thousand-year-old water town.

Interview / Li Chenchen, Staff Member:

"This market carries forward the rich cultural heritage of the traditional water town. By creating an immersive cultural tourism experience, it brings the centuries-old canal transportation culture and local water town traditions to life, making them more accessible and engaging for both residents and visitors."
