Created in Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province, the original realist dance drama Spirit of the Great Lake made its international debut at the Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris in Mexico City. Distilling the beauty of Poyang Lake into an Eastern dance drama, it set Mexico alight with its exquisite, expressive choreography and its ecological vision of harmony between humanity and nature.
The drama traces the shifting fortunes of fishing communities under the Yangtze River basin's ten-year fishing ban, giving voice to the symbiotic bonds between humanity and nature. The ecological beauty of Poyang Lake and the depth of Chinese culture are brought vividly to life, removing cultural barriers for Mexican audiences and enabling them to sense the warmth and strength of China's ecological governance.
When the performance ended, prolonged applause filled the theater. Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister Cerrur remarked that the drama holds significant value in deepening mutual understanding between Mexico and China and drawing the two peoples closer together.
This tour marks Spirit of the Great Lake's first appearance on the international stage; the company will go on to take part in a series of cultural exchange events, including the Santa Lucía International Arts Festival.
