On behalf of the Cambodian government, Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun presented Leung Chun-ying, chairman of Hong Kong’s GX Foundation, with the Knight Grand Officer class of the Royal Order of Monisaraphon. The award honours his significant contributions to Cambodia’s healthcare sector and highlights the dedicated efforts of Hong Kong volunteers.

Leung expressed being “deeply honoured”, noting the recognition of the Foundation's work and its volunteers from Hong Kong and the mainland of China. He pledged to further foster Sino-Cambodian cooperation in medicine and public health.

The Foundation’s “Cataract Blindness Elimination Programme”, has performed over 22,000 free surgeries across several countries, including 5,800 in Cambodia. The group has also launched an anti-dengue fever project along the Phnom Penh–Sihanoukville Expressway.

Mr. Leung, the former Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR Government and Vice-Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, founded the GX Foundation in 2018 to provide medical and public health humanitarian assistance to Belt and Road partner countries.

The Royal Order of Monisaraphon recognises contributions in education, arts, science, and social work.
