Wushu makes its official debut as an Olympic discipline at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, marking a milestone for the Chinese martial art and its growing presence in Africa.
The debut is also a proud moment for Senegal, where local coaches and athletes have spent years developing the sport with support from Chinese experts.
Last August, Dakar hosted a 48-day intensive training programme, during which Chinese specialists trained local coaches, athletes and technical officials in Northern and Southern wushu styles, as well as tai chi. The programme also included training for judges and 40 technical personnel, helping strengthen Senegal's ability to develop and organise the sport.
The cooperation is expected to leave both practical skills and lasting expertise, laying a foundation for wushu's continued growth in Senegal and across the continent.
