Surgeons from China and France have strengthened professional exchanges on robot-assisted pancreatic surgery, paving the way for deeper cooperation and improved outcomes for patients with complex pancreatic diseases.
Specialists from Ramsay Santé Jean Mermoz Private Hospital in France recently visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, where they observed multiple robot-assisted pancreaticoduodenectomy procedures and shared surgical expertise. The Guangzhou hospital has been at the forefront of this field, with Professor Yin Xiaoyu’s team performing robot-assisted pancreatic surgeries since 2015 and completing more than 800 cases to date.
“Over the past few days, I showed several cases… and we discussed surgical techniques,” Yin said.
French surgeon Raphael Bourdariat noted he had identified “some technical points” to apply back home, while also gaining insights into the organisation of a high-volume robotic surgery centre.
The exchange also highlighted advanced hospital support systems, which nurse Wilfrid Bolopion said help staff work more efficiently.
Globally, pancreatic diseases claim around 470,000 lives each year, underscoring the importance of such collaboration.
