Hangzhou and Cairo recently co-hosted a Dialogue on Ancient Civilizations event, bringing more than a dozen Egyptian guests to explore the Liangzhu Archaeological Ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its rich historical legacy.

Often hailed as "China's First City," Liangzhu represents a late Neolithic culture that thrived for about a millennium. More than 136 sites have been identified across the lower Yangtze River region, featuring over 300 structural remains, including elite burials, altars, jade ritual objects, and extensive palace foundations. It stands as a quintessential prehistoric settlement in East Asia and a landmark of human civilization.

The Egyptian delegation walked through the southern gate of the city rampart, climbed Great Mojiao Mountain, and visited the Fanshan royal burial grounds, tracing the city's key archaeological features and examining exquisite jade artifacts. They noted striking similarities between Liangzhu's agricultural remains and those found in Egypt and were deeply impressed by the site's harmonious blend of natural and cultural heritage.

During the upcoming sessions, representatives from both cities will exchange insights on heritage conservation, museum development, and the promotion of ancient civilizations, with the shared goal of preserving and celebrating cultural heritage.
