Joint archaeological efforts by China and Egypt are yielding significant discoveries, deepening understanding of ancient Egyptian civilisation while strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.
Since China began participating in archaeological fieldwork in Egypt in 2018, Chinese and Egyptian teams have uncovered valuable artefacts and archaeological features at sites including the Sekhmet Temple in Mit Rahina.
Among the mission’s most notable achievements was the discovery of the Southern Sacred Lake at the Montu Temple complex near Karnak Temple in Luxor. The breakthrough was supported by advanced Chinese surveying and mapping technologies, including 3D photogrammetry, GIS and digital archiving, which have enhanced the documentation and visualisation of archaeological sites.
Egyptian experts have welcomed the contribution of Chinese expertise, expressing confidence that continued cooperation will lead to further discoveries while advancing archaeological research and cultural exchange between the two nations.
