Art is providing a space for cultural exchange between China and the United States, with Chinese women artists in New York using galleries, exhibitions and personal connections to bring people from different backgrounds together.

Christina Wong, who has roots in Shandong and Shenzhen, has made Lower Manhattan her base, founding Lumen Studio and becoming part of the city's diverse art community. Through her work and engagement with local galleries, she has connected with people from different cultures, finding shared artistic interests a natural starting point for dialogue and friendship.

Her friendship with Shihui Zhou, founder and director of Latitude Gallery, reflects the East-meets-West exchanges taking place across New York's art scene. Founded in 2020, the gallery showcases emerging artists from the Asian diaspora, bringing contemporary Asian perspectives to Western audiences.

For the two artists, art offers an accessible way to experience different cultures, exchange perspectives and build mutual understanding. While it cannot resolve political differences, they believe such personal connections can help foster greater respect between people in China and the US.
