2014 NBA Hall of Fame inductee Mitch Richmond, accompanied by a group of NBA coaches, recently paid a visit to Yuet Wah College in Macao SAR, China, where he led interactive basketball skills clinics and joined young local players in a range of cross-cultural activities.
The on-court masterclass gave students a rare opportunity to test their skills against elite professional athletes. As one clean shot after another swished smoothly through the net, cheers and applause erupted across the gym repeatedly. “Seeing a star run, drive and shoot right in front of us is so inspiring. Getting to take a pass from him and sink a basket ourselves is really thrilling,” said members of the school’s basketball team.
Beyond the court, Richmond joined students in the library for a Chinese calligraphy workshop. Guided by student volunteers, he learned proper brush handling, ink dipping techniques and basic character writing, immersing himself in the art form’s distinctive rhythm and subtle artistry. The focus, precision and consistent practice at the heart of calligraphy mirror the daily dedication needed to excel at basketball, forging a natural link between the two disciplines.
