Hong Kong’s Mirs Bay has become the first waters in the city to be recognised as an “Outstanding Example of Beautiful Bays” in the fourth batch announced by China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment. The designation highlights the bay’s pristine marine environment, thriving ecosystems, and successful ecological protection efforts.
Mirs Bay achieved a 100 per cent compliance rate with Water Quality Objectives, meeting Class I national seawater standards, and supports habitats for protected species including hard corals, seahorses, horseshoe crabs, and white-bellied sea eagles. The area also encompasses the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark and marine parks, offering visitors close-up experiences of diverse ecological and geological wonders.
The recognition celebrates Mirs Bay’s successful environmental management and ongoing efforts to protect marine life, control pollution, and foster harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
