Japan’s biggest name in anime retail is coming back – Animate is set to reopen in Hong Kong, marking an exciting comeback for fans of anime, manga, and gaming culture.

Known as Japan’s go-to destination for exclusive merch, Animate’s return is welcome news for local enthusiasts who once made sure to visit its stores during trips to Japan. A recent post on the official Animate Hong Kong Facebook page has fuelled excitement, confirming staff recruitment for the upcoming store.

Animate previously operated a Mong Kok branch and its themed Youme Cafe, both of which closed in 2020. Now, five years later, fans can look forward to shopping Japan’s latest anime and manga goods right here at home.

While the exact opening date and location remain under wraps, anticipation is already high. Animate runs over 100 stores in Japan and has expanded to China, Taiwan, Thailand, and the U.S. – and soon, Hong Kong once again.
