Hong Kong achieved remarkable success at the 11th Silicon Valley International Invention Festival (SVIIF), winning 27 gold medals and 8 special awards. A highlight of the event was the Grand Award presented to the University of Hong Kong’s Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre for a major breakthrough in detecting cancer and infectious diseases.
Their new testing method, which improves on traditional lab techniques, can spot multiple health threats at once. It's faster, more accurate, and more affordable, which could lead to earlier diagnosis and better treatment for patients.
Lingnan University also stood out, earning 13 awards, including the prestigious IFIA Award, making it the most awarded Hong Kong institution at the festival.
Additionally, four start-ups and research projects from Hong Kong Baptist University received two gold and two silver medals for their smart health technologies, including a new treatment using helpful bacteria to fight colorectal cancer.
Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong, reaffirmed the government’s strong support for research and development, highlighting Hong Kong’s growing presence on the global innovation stage.
