China’s AI Plus initiative seeks to use artificial intelligence to stimulate domestic consumption, as policymakers look to strengthen household spending amid weaker property markets and growing external economic uncertainty.
The plan promotes the development of AI-powered consumer technologies and services aimed at creating new forms of demand across both goods and services sectors. Priority areas include entertainment, e-commerce, housekeeping, property management, tourism, eldercare and childcare.
The initiative also encourages the development of new consumer products such as intelligent connected vehicles, AI-powered smartphones, robotics, smart home systems and wearable devices. At the same time, authorities are supporting the integration of AI into emerging ecosystems including the metaverse, low-altitude aviation and brain-computer interfaces.
The strategy reflects Beijing’s broader effort to shift more of the growth burden towards domestic consumption, while using AI-driven innovation to create new consumer experiences and expand spending in the services sector.
