A Shenzhen robotics startup has gone viral after its CEO stepped into a boxing ring and was knocked to the ground by one of the company's humanoid robots in a carefully staged demonstration of its agility and striking power.

Founded by Zhao Tongyang, EngineAI develops general purpose humanoid robots designed for high mobility, balance and rapid movement. Each robot combines more than 20 high performance joints with proprietary motors, controllers and sensors, allowing it to perform complex, human-like actions while using advanced 3D laser vision to identify targets and execute more than 100 programmed offensive and defensive movements.

The company's manufacturing capabilities are also expanding rapidly. Robots can be assembled in as little as 15 minutes, with monthly production reaching up to 1,000 units. A dedicated training area at its factory allows robots to refine combat-style movements and coordination.

EngineAI's progress reflects China's broader push to accelerate humanoid robotics. Industrial robot output rose 28 percent year on year in the first half of 2026, while a national training program aims to prepare humanoid robots and embodied AI systems for large scale real-world deployment by the end of the year.
