Police in Guangzhou have unveiled a high-tech patrol lineup combining humanoid robots, drones and self-balancing scooters, as part of efforts to enhance public safety during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5.
At Ersha Island, a humanoid robot drew crowds as it joined officers on patrol, performing martial arts movements while delivering anti-fraud messages through an interactive broadcast system. Its presence has helped increase public engagement, making safety campaigns more visible and accessible.
On the ground, officers are using self-balancing scooters capable of reaching speeds of up to 20 kilometres per hour, allowing rapid response in areas where vehicles are restricted, such as parks. The scooters are equipped with emergency supplies to assist those in need.
Meanwhile, drones provide aerial support, monitoring crowd flow and traffic in real time. Together, these technologies form a multi-layered policing approach aimed at improving efficiency and community outreach.
