China is accelerating the development of a national computing-resource scheduling trunk linking Shenzhen in Guangdong Province with Guizhou, as it moves to meet rapidly growing demand for intelligent computing.

 

By the end of June, the country’s intelligent computing capacity had reached 2,185 EFLOPS, up 177 percent year-on-year. The expansion comes as computing resources remain unevenly distributed across regions, prompting efforts to improve the coordinated monitoring and allocation of computing power nationwide.

 

At Peng Cheng Laboratory in Shenzhen, researchers are developing a new-generation optical fibre designed to significantly increase transmission capacity. The fibre, no thicker than a human hair, contains four internal channels, allowing multiple high-speed data streams to be transmitted simultaneously.

 

Using the new fibre and related equipment, researchers plan to develop the Shenzhen-Guizhou Line into a 1,000-kilometre ultra-broadband computing corridor. The low-latency optical connection will link major computing hubs with AI application clusters, enabling computing resources to move faster and more efficiently across regions.
