[Tech Trends] China Uses 6G to Advance Smart Robot Deployment

Chinese researchers are turning to 6G technology to help smart robots move from laboratory prototypes into real-world applications, with a dedicated test facility in Beijing designed to improve their reliability and performance.

At a test site in Hangzhou, a four-legged robot navigates slopes, rubble and other challenging terrain as researchers assess its motion control under complex conditions. Such testing is part of the push towards physical AI, which requires robots to respond reliably to unpredictable surroundings.

The Beijing 6G Laboratory is pairing advanced networks with robot training and validation. By providing ultra-low latency, stable connections and support for large numbers of devices, 6G can help ensure the rapid exchange of data between robots and cloud-based AI systems.

Cloud computing could also reduce the need for bulky onboard hardware, making robots lighter, less costly and more energy-efficient.

The technology is already supporting commercial growth, with one manufacturer reporting orders for nearly 100 robots and mass deliveries expected by year-end.
