Shanghai is broadening its appeal to international visitors with technology-focused experiences, as robots, new energy vehicles (NEVs) and autonomous driving join the city’s traditional tourist attractions.

At a robotics experience centre, overseas visitors can watch robotic dogs perform acrobatic moves and interact with humanoid robots. The centre has welcomed more than 1,000 overseas visits in its first four months, with international visitors accounting for over half of its foot traffic. Growing interest has also generated related business orders.

NEV showrooms are becoming another popular stop, offering travellers a closer look at the features and technologies behind China’s rapidly developing electric vehicle industry, from innovative door designs to advanced sound systems and driving technologies.

Travel agencies are also responding to demand by tailoring itineraries for international business visitors, particularly senior executives and corporate groups. Experiences such as drone deliveries and autonomous vehicle rides are being incorporated into customised tours, giving visitors firsthand insight into China’s technological advances.
