[Green Tech] Greater Bay Area Launches First Zero-Carbon Container Route
: :

"Suigang Dianhang 02," South China's largest intelligent electric container ship for inland waterways, has recently departed Guangzhou Port's Nansha Phase III Terminal, fully loaded with Guangdong-made furniture, daily necessities and other goods, bound for Hong Kong International Container Terminal. The maiden voyage marks the official launch of the Greater Bay Area's first zero-carbon container route between Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Emitting zero emissions and operating quietly, the vessel opens a green logistics corridor between Nansha and Hong Kong. Each ship cuts carbon emissions by over 550 tons a year, with lifetime reductions estimated at up to 19,000 tons. The vessel features an innovative containerized "charge-and-swap" power solution—batteries can be hoisted out for swapping or charged directly—resolving the endurance constraints of electric ships. This nationally leading green technology offers a replicable, scalable model for electrifying China's inland fleet.

The route is part of Guangzhou Port Group's "Shuttle Bus" waterborne logistics service. By upgrading from traditional transport to green, intelligent integrated logistics, the project injects strong green momentum into the coordinated development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's world-class port cluster.
