Dazzling ice sculptures are lighting up Harbin as the world’s largest ice and snow theme park opens its doors once again for the winter season. The latest edition of the Harbin Ice and Snow World welcomed visitors on Wednesday in the capital of northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, widely known as the country’s “Ice City”.

Now in its 27th year, the park spans a record 1.2 million square metres and is built using around 400,000 cubic metres of ice and snow. This year’s theme, “Ice and Snow, Fairy Tale World”, is brought to life through towering sculptures and immersive landscapes.

Three main visual axes anchor the park, including a grand parade route, an outdoor performance stage and a newly constructed 5,000-square-metre air-supported hall. Smart lighting and AI-powered interactive features add a modern touch to the frozen setting.

A packed programme of events is planned, ranging from international ice sculpture competitions to sports matches and festive Lunar New Year performances. By the end of opening day, the park had already drawn about 45,000 visitors.
