Weizhou Island, a compact oceanic resort in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is drawing a growing number of visitors as it expands its range of recreational experiences. Located off Beihai City in the South China Sea, the island is especially popular in winter thanks to its mild climate.
From December to April, the waters around Weizhou Island offer rare opportunities to spot Bryde’s whales, a natural highlight that continues to attract wildlife enthusiasts. “The moment when I photographed a whale leaping out of the water was very exciting,” said tourist Mrs. Liu.
Shaped by volcanic activity, the island also features distinctive underwater landscapes. With clear visibility, divers can explore soft corals and colourful tropical fish. To meet rising demand, operators have introduced more water sports, beach entertainment and year-round leisure services.
Improved transport has further supported tourism growth, with passenger traffic on the Beihai–Weizhou route rising sharply, alongside advances in digital port management to enhance safety and efficiency.
