The 2025 Alxa Camel Super League kicked off Saturday in Alxa League, Inner Mongolia, adding a lively new dimension to the region’s winter tourism. Running through March 2026 across three locations, the league features camel relay and long-distance races, camel polo, archery on camel back, traditional skill contests, and even a camel beauty pageant.
The opening attracted 24 teams and over a thousand camels. “I've been participating in competitions with camels since I was a child… Overall, it performed quite well today,” said one participant. Alxa League is home to 174,000 camels, roughly one-third of China’s total, and local authorities are promoting sports, culture, and tourism through camel-related events.
For spectators, the experience is unforgettable. “This is my first time watching this competition, and I got up close to the camels. They are incredibly strong and impressive… I feel this trip is very rewarding,” said a visitor.
