China has added 11 new occupations and 23 new job types, highlighting how digital technologies and the green transition are reshaping the country’s labour market.

The occupations, formally recognised on Wednesday, September 9, include digital twin engineering technicians, embodied-intelligence robot application technicians and satellite navigation equipment installers and adjusters, reflecting growing demand for expertise in emerging technologies.

Five of the 11 new occupations are digital roles, pointing to the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, robotics and other technologies across industries. Three are linked to green development, including hydrogen production and fuel cell manufacturing.

Among the new job types are AI agent developers and low-altitude logistics operators, signalling emerging employment opportunities in areas such as AI and the low-altitude economy.

Since 2019, China has recognised 121 new occupations in eight batches, with new roles required to have a sizable workforce and strong future employment potential.
