Last weekend, the Tianshan Mountains in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region were seen under a broad cover of snow, offering a clear view of the region’s winter landscape. Dense rime formed on trees in the deep valleys, shaping a distinctly cold-season environment.
Along the ridges, groups of Tianshan elk moved through snow-covered spruce forests, foraging calmly as clouds drifted below. Their activity reflected a calm and enduring wildlife presence in the mountains during winter.
Together, the snow, rime and wildlife offered a vivid picture of the Tianshan Mountains in the cold season, showing how the landscape and its animals continued to exist in balance despite the harsh conditions of midwinter.
