[Cultural China] Xinjiang in Oil: 70 New Landscapes on View in Urumqi

Chinese artist Fan Di’an’s solo oil exhibition at the Xinjiang Art Museum brings together 70 landscape works that pay tribute both to the region and to the spirit of the times.

The canvases unfold like chapters of a living chronicle. Fan’s scenes range from the sweeping plains at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains to the weathered walls of ancient towns; from tranquil grasslands with grazing herds and drifting cooking smoke to the dynamic energy of modern cityscapes. His brushwork blends on-site realism with lyrical expression, allowing viewers to feel both immersed in the landscape and moved by its deeper spirit.

Fan says many more Xinjiang stories remain to be painted. He hopes the show acts as a bridge, helping people better understand—and come to love—this vast, evolving land.
