Crowds welcomed the New Year at the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar in northwest China’s Urumqi city on New Year’s Eve, as vibrant performances filled the landmark venue with festive energy.
Dance troupes weaved through the square and streets in a lively procession, accompanied by upbeat drum rhythms. Visitors were encouraged to join in, creating an immersive and joyful farewell to the old year.
The Grand Bazaar, known for showcasing Xinjiang’s distinctive architecture, cuisine and ethnic dances, was adorned with glowing red lanterns and decorative ornaments. Despite the winter chill, the streets remained busy, with people shopping, taking photos and soaking up the celebrations.
Cultural creative products proved especially popular. Items from the “Nang Cultural Creative” series, inspired by Xinjiang’s traditional flatbread, drew strong interest, alongside handicrafts and local delicacies. Vendors said holiday spending rose noticeably, adding to the festive atmosphere and local vitality.
