With the Chinese New Year approaching, Gaochun District in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province in eastern China, hosted a spectacular street banquet that drew thousands. More than 450 tables stretched along a single lane for over 1,000 metres, creating a sweeping communal feast where neighbours and visitors raised glasses together.

At lunchtime, the banquet formally began. Costumed Gods of Wealth and lion dance troupes wove through the crowd, adding rhythmic drumbeats and cheers to the festive scene. The menu showcased local specialties, with each dish carrying New Year wishes and offering diners a taste of Gaochun’s culinary heritage.

The event also launched a winter tourism series. In the coming weeks, local sites will stage intangible cultural heritage parades, fireworks, and other New Year performances, extending the holiday cheer and offering visitors more chances to celebrate traditional culture.
