In China’s vibrant northwest, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region dazzles as a living tapestry of ethnic traditions. This year, Urumqi has transformed into a cultural stage inviting visitors to experience its Uygur, Kazakh, and Hui heritage through immersive events—none more enchanting than its “Horseback Wedding" extravaganza.

The spectacle began with five regal Akhal-Teke stallions prancing alongside spirited ponies, their coats gleaming under the sun. Against a soundtrack of traditional Muqam melodies, performers in exquisite Silk Road-era attire recreated a historic wedding procession. The crowd gasped as the Uygur "bride" and "groom" rode past on snow-white steeds, their joyful entourage dancing and tossing sweets and cheese—a timeless gesture of celebration.

"Pure magic—I was spellbound" raved one visitor. More than just entertainment, these living traditions turn travel into cultural connection, offering a galloping ride through Xinjiang’s soul.
