Twelve lion dance teams from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area vaulted through breath-taking pole routines, delivering wave after wave of high-flying stunts that drew cheers. The performances brought precision, daring and theatrical flair to the stage, fully showcasing the event’s qualities of height, difficulty, thrill, danger and beauty.
Eighteen high poles formed the arena, ranging from 1.65 to 2.8 metres with maximum gaps of 3.5 metres. Teams completed demanding moves atop the posts, each troupe offering its own signature style while exchanging skills and pushing forward lion dance culture.
Held in Shawan Ancient Town in Guangzhou, southern China, the invitational also turned the town into a hands-on lion dance experience park where visitors could touch lion heads, try basic footwork and watch head-making techniques, making the day both a contest and an immersive cultural event.
