On the western artificial island of the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Link in southern China, ten couples exchanged vows in a seaside mass wedding that kicked off the island’s cultural-tourism operations. At 2:30 p.m., a piano rose from the viewing platform, and the opening ceremony’s highlight began as the newlyweds, dressed for the occasion, pledged their commitment with the sea as a witness.
A groom from Shenzhen, Mr. Zhang, said, “When we were dating, we often drove across the Link. The bridge has been a silent witness, accompanying us through countless sweet moments.”
The Shenzhen–Zhongshan Link connects Shenzhen, Zhongshan, and Guangzhou and is described as a world-class cross-sea cluster project integrating bridges, islands, tunnels, and underwater interconnections. The western artificial island’s “transport plus cultural-tourism” model is moving from exploration toward mature development.
Organizers call the island a seaside reception room that combines mega-project science outreach, tech study tours, and romantic lifestyle offerings, and they expect it to become a new cultural-tourism benchmark for the Greater Bay Area.
