Hong Kong will establish the first national manufacturing innovation centre outside the Chinese mainland, reinforcing its growing role as an international innovation and technology hub. Confirmed by Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong, the initiative will support breakthroughs in key technologies, accelerate the commercialisation of research and attract global talent.

The agreement was signed between the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, with Vice-Minister Xiong Jijun attending the ceremony.

Building on Hong Kong's strengths in semiconductor development, the centre will align with national priorities for new industrialisation while supporting closer collaboration with mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area. It will also strengthen industrial research and development, enhance the resilience of key manufacturing sectors and further integrate Hong Kong into the national industrial system, underscoring the city's role in connecting China's advanced manufacturing capabilities with international technology, investment and expertise.
