A Pearl River cruise is a must-do activity for visitors to Guangzhou. Enhancing this experience, the newly launched themed vessel, No. 1 Scholar Ark, sets sail as the river’s first “floating academy,” celebrating the city’s rich scholarly heritage.

Spanning three decks, the boat seamlessly combines Lingnan architectural style with traditional academy culture. Its eaves and corridors unfold like the pages of an ancient book, evoking a refined literary charm. Onboard highlights include an Ao Fish Lantern—a symbol of academic success—and a No. 1 Scholar Hat, representing top honors in the imperial examinations. Visitors can collect stamps at these photo-worthy spots to commemorate their journey through scholarship and culture.

According to staff, two more themed vessels will debut this year, inspired by the Millennium Commercial Port and the Nanyue King. Each will offer a unique glimpse into Guangzhou’s history and heritage, set against the backdrop of the scenic river.
