[GBA Thrills] New Huanggang Port Opens, Travellers Praise Faster Clearance
: :

Ms Tam / Hong Kong Resident:

"If you use the e-gates, it's very quick. It probably takes 30 seconds."

Mr Li / Mainland Visitor:

"It's much more convenient now. The time taken has been greatly reduced. I think things are getting better and better. For visitors like us who travel frequently across the border, it's definitely much more convenient."

The rebuilt Huanggang Port adopts a “co-location arrangement” and a “collaborative inspection and joint clearance” model, providing 24-hour services for travellers and passenger vehicles. The new port officially opened at 6:30 am on Monday, October 12. Within the first few minutes, dozens of people had already entered Hong Kong through the port to experience the new clearance arrangements.

Mr Hou / Mainland Visitor:

"It feels like I cleared immigration in less than a minute."

Was there anything that didn't go smoothly?

"No, the signs are very clear."

Ms Ng / Foreign Visitor:

"I used the manual counter. It only took me one minute. Previously, when I used the manual counters, I had to go to two different places, through two separate channels. Now there's just one channel with two counters. It was all done in less than a minute."

How much time did you save?

"29 minutes, because it used to take half an hour."

Mr Wu / Hong Kong Resident:

"I came here on the first day to have a look and check it out. I travelled here from Tsing Yi Station, and it took about 20 minutes. It's very spacious here. The environment is quite nice."

The new Huanggang Port has a total gross floor area of 689,700 square metres. It is the largest standalone port building in China and the world's largest land port. The nine-storey building houses the arrival hall on the fourth floor and the departure hall on the fifth floor. It has 134 self-service e-gates and 68 traditional manual counters, with convenient transport connections in the surrounding area.

Mable Chan / Secretary for Transport and Logistics:

"Everyone is concerned about how accessible the new Huanggang Port is. As you can see when you arrive, there are many large signs around the area. To facilitate connections between different modes of public transport, we have also put up clear signage. Our public transport network is well connected, linking the port to most major areas across Hong Kong. Dedicated franchised bus services connect to nine railway stations across five MTR lines. Other services also connect to four bus interchanges."

Chris Tang / Secretary for Security:

"Overall, since the new Huanggang Port opened, operations have been running very smoothly. All joint inspection counters and the “five-in-one” joint vehicle inspection lanes are operating normally and efficiently. The official opening of the new Huanggang Port marks a new milestone in cross-boundary clearance services between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. We will continue to closely monitor the port's operations and review the various services to prepare for peak travel periods during upcoming weekends and public holidays."
