The construction of Guangzhou’s new airport has recently begun in Gaoming, Foshan, marking the official entry of Guangzhou into the era of a “dual-hub airport system.” With a total investment of over RMB 41.8 billion, the airport is designed to handle 30 million passengers annually. Once completed, it will offer a range of domestic and international routes and complement the existing Baiyun Airport in functionality. A strong ground transport network will be built to connect the two hubs.

Locating the new airport in Foshan is a notable example of cross-city collaboration and coordinated development within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The facility will fill a gap in aviation services in the western part of the GBA, ease the near-saturated passenger volumes at Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong airports, and significantly cut travel time for passengers from western cities.

Developing a world-class airport cluster is a key strategic goal for the GBA. The new Guangzhou airport will serve as one of the region’s major international aviation hubs, injecting fresh momentum into the area’s growth.
