Angola is stepping up efforts to tap into Asia’s financial networks, with Finance Minister Vera Daves de Sousa leading a recent five-day visit to China that highlighted closer engagement with Hong Kong.
During her stay, she met Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po to explore Angola’s potential entry into Hong Kong’s financial market. Discussions covered debt issuance, green finance, digital economy development and stronger institutional collaboration, aligned with the Belt and Road Initiative.
The delegation also held talks in Beijing with Wu Qing on capital market development and regulation. In Shanghai, meetings with Dilma Rousseff focused on Angola’s possible membership in the New Development Bank.
Engagements with Chinese financial institutions further underscored Angola’s push to diversify funding sources and advance key development projects.
