The musical “Manas”, produced by the Xinjiang Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture Song and Dance Troupe, was recently staged at the Bishkek National Concert Hall in Kyrgyzstan's capital, drawing an audience of over a thousand.

As one of China's three great ethnic heroic epics, “Manas” has been sung for over a millennium. It is not only a household name in Xinjiang but also widely revered across the Silk Road nations. This enduring cross-cultural heritage has made Manas a shared spiritual asset and a vital cultural bridge between China and Kyrgyzstan.

The concert hall was filled to capacity. The powerful orchestral score, the resonant vocals, and the fluid choreography drew sustained applause and cheers. When the curtain fell, many spectators lingered, reluctant to leave, engaging warmly with the performers and posing for photos—a truly heartwarming scene.

For this overseas debut, the troupe honored tradition while embracing innovation, reimagining the ancient epic as a modern stage work of both intellectual depth and artistic sophistication. Through inventive staging and multimedia-rich presentation, they preserved the epic's gravitas and spiritual essence while infusing it with contemporary creativity and vitality, offering the audience an immersive experience of its timeless power and resonance.
