Hong Kong is strengthening cultural and creative ties with Indonesia through a showcase of its cinema at Jakarta Film Week, featuring film screenings, industry exchanges and a thematic exhibition exploring connections between the two cities.

The Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation, which opened on October 22, features five films spanning classic action cinema and contemporary productions. Organised by the Asian Film Awards Academy, the programme includes three martial arts classics starring Sammo Hung: “Eastern Condors”, “Encounter of the Spooky Kind” and “The Bodyguard”, alongside the recent productions “The Dating Menu” and “Dead End”.

Hung also led a masterclass, sharing his experience with Indonesian film practitioners and audiences.

A free exhibition, “A Tale of Two Cities: Hong Kong x Jakarta”, is running at FX Sudirman until October 31, exploring the cities’ shared cultural and cinematic interests through films and related exhibits.

The events reflect Hong Kong’s efforts to expand international film collaboration and promote exchanges among creative professionals, supported by initiatives to nurture local talent and develop a sustainable film industry.
