Hong Kong artist Prudence Mak is bringing her contemporary ink art to audiences in Australia with the “Wave of Life” exhibition tour.

Following its Sydney run from August 21 to 24, the exhibition opened in Melbourne on August 27 and will continue until September 6. The showcase brings together Mak’s ink paintings, ceramics and large-scale installations, exploring themes including life, memory, nature, culture and self-discovery.

Through expressive brushwork, layered ink washes and imaginative compositions, Mak gives traditional Chinese ink aesthetics a contemporary interpretation, creating a visual dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures.

Speaking at the Melbourne opening, the Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney Ricky Chong highlighted the longstanding arts and cultural ties between Hong Kong and Melbourne, including collaborations involving the West Kowloon Cultural District and Melbourne’s museums and universities.

The tour also features workshops led by Mak and her team, giving participants a hands-on introduction to Chinese ink painting while encouraging their own creative interpretations.
