A Hong Kong art installation inspired by the Adriatic Sea was presented at Croatia’s Visualia Festival of Light in the coastal city of Pula from September 17 to 19, highlighting Hong Kong’s role as an East-meets-West centre for international arts and cultural exchange.

“The Tower of Light – Croatia Edition” by Hong Kong artist Wong Chi-yung transformed with its surroundings. During the day, it appeared as a conceptual light tower, while at night it became a luminous installation using light and darkness to evoke the movement and stillness of water.

For the Croatia edition, Wong drew on the Adriatic’s currents, calm and reflective surface, creating a work that responded to Pula’s maritime setting and cultural character.

The presentation was supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels and the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau.

Founded in 2013, the Visualia Festival of Light turns Pula’s Roman ruins and industrial sites into an open-air gallery, attracting more than 15,000 visitors annually.
