Qatar Airways Cargo has opened a regional office in Hong Kong and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) to deepen co-operation on air connectivity and aviation development.

The MOU aims to boost cargo flows through Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), while using Qatar Airways Cargo’s global network to strengthen links with emerging markets, including destinations in South America. The partnership will also focus on operational efficiency, service improvements, sustainability and talent development.

Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said the new office reflects Qatar Airways Cargo’s confidence in Hong Kong as an international aviation hub. She added that the partnership would create greater synergies between HKIA, the world’s busiest cargo airport, and the global carrier.

Qatar Airways Cargo Senior Vice President Cargo Sales Eric Wilson said Hong Kong’s infrastructure, efficiency and strategic location make it an ideal gateway to Asia and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The HKSAR Government will continue working with AAHK and airlines to expand Hong Kong’s aviation network and develop new cargo routes.
