China’s wind power sector reached a new milestone in 2025, reinforcing the country’s push towards cleaner and more sustainable energy.
Wind power generation by major industrial enterprises exceeded one trillion kilowatt-hours during the year, reflecting the steady expansion of renewable energy nationwide. China has now ranked first globally in installed wind power capacity for 15 consecutive years, with wind energy accounting for a growing share of the national power mix.
Officials say the progress highlights wind power’s role as a cornerstone of China’s green transition. “China’s installed wind power generation capacity had reached about 640 million kilowatts,” noted Liu Zhiqiang, deputy director at the China Electricity Council.
Regional projects are also driving momentum. East China’s coastal Jiangsu Province continues to lead offshore wind development, supplying large volumes of green electricity to the Yangtze River Delta, while major wind farms in Inner Mongolia are expanding to support low-carbon growth.
Looking ahead, China plans to add more than 200 million kilowatts of new wind and solar capacity in 2026, further accelerating its shift towards clean energy.
