Zhuhai and Macau marked World Oceans Day (June 8) with a series of Greater Bay Area activities aimed at promoting marine conservation and public awareness, particularly among students and families.
Events included beach cleanups, seabed conservation work and marine science programmes designed to encourage hands-on learning about ocean ecosystems.
In the waters around Zhuhai's Miaowan Island, divers from across the Greater Bay Area carried out staghorn coral monitoring and removed marine debris. The team also recorded coral growth and other marine data to support nearshore ecological restoration and long-term environmental monitoring.
A two-day parent-child study camp, "Young Ocean Guardians", introduced participating families to coral protection, marine waste management and biodiversity conservation through field activities and educational sessions.
Organisers said the programme was intended to strengthen public understanding of marine ecology and encourage greater participation in protecting coastal environments across the Greater Bay Area.
