Greening HK: Urban Farms Grow Fresh Future
Iris / Host:
Here in Yuen Long, this modern farm produces different varieties of salad greens. While Hong Kong relies on imported and mainland vegetables, this offers locals another choice. What's more, local farming helps cut carbon emissions.
Edwin Ho / CEO, Kanaya Agricultural Technology:
When more Hong Kong people eat locally grown vegetables, we reduce our dependence on external imports. That means fewer transported vegetables and lower emissions.

This hydroponic farm uses advanced technology to boost efficiency - and it's drawing young people to urban farming.
Edwin Ho:
We started hydroponic farming 10 years ago, but back then we still needed lots of manual labor despite good yields. Over the past decade, technology has automated many tasks. Farming today isn't about working under sun and rain. We want to show it can be done in comfortable conditions. With technology, you can grow crops in a better environment than traditional fieldwork. This makes farming more attractive as a career.

Trying urban farming myself under Edwin's guidance, harvesting fresh vegetables - it really brings me closer to a low-carbon lifestyle.
