Hong Kong wrapped up its best-ever World Games campaign with a thrilling finish, thanks to 17-year-old Kwan Chun-yan’s silver medal in drone racing. Kwan’s achievement not only capped the city’s record six-medal haul – three golds, two silvers, and one bronze – but also marked Hong Kong’s very first medal in the high-speed futuristic sport.
The young pilot’s path to the podium was anything but straightforward. After placing 11th in the qualifiers and falling short in the round of 16, Kwan battled back in the Repechage, flying with precision and nerve to win four consecutive rounds and secure a place in the finals. His resilience and technical skill earned him a well-deserved silver.
Hong Kong’s chef de mission Wong Po-kee praised Kwan’s composure under pressure, adding that the medal highlights the diversity and momentum of Hong Kong’s sporting scene. For fans, it was a glimpse of just how exciting and dynamic drone racing and Hong Kong sport can be.
