The Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMOA) will present a new exhibition exploring how gardens have inspired artists and cultures across centuries. Bringing together 106 paintings and artefacts from major international collections, the showcase examines the artistic and cultural meanings behind garden spaces in both East and West.

Works are drawn from institutions including the Palace Museum in Beijing, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Palace of Versailles in France and HKMOA. Through themes such as garden landscapes, leisure activities and artworks shaped by garden culture, the exhibition traces how gardens have served as places of beauty, reflection and social life.

Visitors will encounter depictions of royal gardens linked to figures such as China’s Emperor Qianlong and France’s King Louis XIV, alongside works by celebrated artists including Claude Monet, Zhang Daqian and Wen Zhengming.

The exhibition opens on 24 April and runs until 29 July, with free admission for visitors.
