[HK Thrills] Leipzig Orchestra Brings Masterworks to Hong Kong Stage

The renowned Gewandhausorchester Leipzig will return to Hong Kong this June after a seven-year absence, led by acclaimed conductor Andris Nelsons in his city debut. The two-night engagement at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre forms part of a wider Asia tour and has already drawn strong demand.

Programmes blend German and Russian masterworks, with Yulianna Avdeeva, winner of the International Chopin Piano Competition, featured as soloist. Audiences will hear Beethoven’s “Emperor” concerto and Schumann’s “Spring” Symphony, alongside Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto and Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony.

Founded in 1743, the Leipzig orchestra is celebrated for its rich, distinctive sound and historic premieres. Under Nelsons, who also leads the Boston Symphony Orchestra, it continues to bridge tradition with contemporary excellence.

The concerts take place on 2 and 3 June, with the latter already sold out and limited tickets remaining for the opening night.
