The dance drama “Lady White Snake” will open the Chinese Culture Festival 2026 with two performances at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on June 12 and 13. Produced by the Shanghai Grand Theatre, the production reimagines the classic Chinese legend through a contemporary psychological lens, blending Eastern and Western dance vocabularies with modern storytelling.

Under the artistic direction of internationally acclaimed ballerina Tan YuanYuan, the work follows a woman whose recurring dreams of the Green Snake lead her on a journey of self-discovery. Familiar scenes from the ancient tale, including “Encounter at the Broken Bridge” and “Flooding of Jinshan Temple”, are reinterpreted through ballet, Chinese classical dance, modern dance and martial arts.

The production features a star-studded creative team and casts from the Chinese mainland and overseas, highlighting the vitality and global appeal of contemporary Chinese stage productions while showcasing Hong Kong’s role as an international cultural exchange hub.
